Footed Covered Butter Dish Blue Milk Glass~sold
What a gorgeous and quality piece. It is the Portieux Vallerysthal Chimeres covered butter. This piece can be seen in "The Milk Glass Book" by Frank Chiarenza & James Slater on page 213 in the lower left. That page is a reprint from the 1933 Portieux catalog - which dates this piece to the 1930's era, placing it's value at $90+.
This is a two piece item, formally known as a footed covered butter, but would also make a lovely candy dish. It is a light aqua blue milk glass. It is 8¾" tall (with the lid on) and 6¼" across in diameter of the bowl. NO chips, cracks, nicks, discoloration or damage of any kind.
It has beautiful moulding - with the chimeres (a French mythological creature that resembles a gargoyle) on all sides of the bowl. The other mold details are just gorgeous with fine stippling on the bowl and large section of the cover.
This is a great piece for a great price.
